THE LORD’S PRAYER Part 2 (OUR FATHER)
As we said in part one The Lord’s Prayer is a complete teaching that will bring you into a fullness of what God has for you through prayer and into a fullness of the things of God in your life. If we do as the Word instructs us to meditate and confess and pray, when applied to The Lord’s Prayer this will cause this word to be planted in your heart ( spirit ) and will flow over into your soul and into your mind and will produce a change in you according to God’s Word. As you begin to change being conformed to the Word of God then the power in this Word will begin to manifest in your life as a more intimate relationship with God and also the power of God will also be made manifest which we call answered prayer or miracles. Your more intimate relationship with God will give you an awareness of His presence with you, especially when you are involved in spiritual activities such as prayer, praise, worship, reading the Word, but you will also become more aware of Him in day to day activities also.
This teaching on prayer that Jesus gave to His disciples is complete and will produce the will of God in your life if you pursue it and not just treat it as a prayer to be said at varies times, but to be meditated upon and to receive God’s harvest from it. Let us take a look at The Lord’s Prayer.
Matt 6:9-13
(9) After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in
heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
(10) Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
(11) Give us this day our daily bread.
(12) And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
(13) And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For
thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.
Amen.
It is important to take note that in verse 9 Jesus says to pray after this manner. The first two words of this teaching on prayer that Jesus is giving is of the greatest importance for us to understand and to have faith in. I think that these two words, Our Father, have been read over to quickly being thought of as an introduction to the rest of the prayer. But actually this whole teaching that Jesus gives is built upon these two words, Our Father. The understanding and revelation in Our Father is so great and vast that it adds strength to the rest of the prayer. You will never reap the full benefits of this teaching of Jesus and the rest of the Bible if you don’t come into a revelation and understanding of Our Father. We could say it this way, what you get out of the teaching of Jesus in The Lord’s Prayer will only be as strong or in depth as your understanding of Our Father. If your understanding of Our Father is lacking, so will be your understanding of the rest of the teaching on The Lord’s Prayer.
The words Our Father bring us to the place of relationship. This is what we are dealing with here, relationship. There are many different kinds of relationships and different levels. We need to understand our relationship with God and what level we are on in this relationship.
Many people out of the religious sense when saying Our Father look at God as the Creator, or the Heavenly Father way off some where out there, or it’s just a way to them of saying “ God “.
This is probably more like the idea that the Israelites had in the Old Testament. He was God, God Almighty, Jehovah Rapha (healer), Jehovah Jireh (provider), Jehovah Rohi (shepherd) and many other names of God. But He wasn’t called Father. This is a New Testament revelation that the born again experience brings us into the understanding that we have being adopted into the family of God.
Rom 8:15-16
(15) For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption , whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
(16) The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
2 Cor 6:18
And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters , saith the Lord Almighty.
Jesus has taken us from a place of just being a creation of God to a place of family relationship with God. He is still God Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and we should hold Him in Holy reverence for this but at the same time we are His children, sons and daughters. This revelation should bring us closer in our relationship with God. He is not only God, but He is my Father. This is a revelation that you really need to get into your spirit. Many people have heard this and agreed but it never went passed their intellect. They never made it personal or theirs, it was just data. You need to have the light go on and get the revelation of it. That’s when you’ve read a verse of scripture over and over maybe hundreds of times but one day while you where reading it seemed like a light went on and you had a personal revelation of it. You have to get passed the mental understanding and into the spiritual understanding of it.
Ps 119:130
The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.
Having a revelation that God is your Father is a great faith builder. But it even gets better than this. Jesus, in His teaching of The Lord’s Prayer used two words, OUR FATHER. He is not only Jesus Father but He is also OUR FATHER, my Father, your Father. This brings us into a higher level of relationship with God as Jesus gives us an equality with Him in this area of relationship.
Rom 8:17
And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
Being a joint heir with Jesus is a great honor that God has given us and He has given us a place of intimacy with Him in this. Can you imagine, God wants to have an intimate relationship with you.
Mark 14:36
And he said, Abba , Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.
Rom 8:15
(15) For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba , Father.
Gal 4:6-7
(6) And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba , Father.
(7) Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
How intimate does God want to be with you? How intimate would you like your relationship with your child to be?
In Mark 14:36 as Jesus is praying He uses the word Abba with Father. This is a term of endearment and very intimate. A servant may refer to the master of the house as father, but the word Abba would not be used by a servant. It is a word reserved for the children of the house. In Rom 8:15 we have received the Spirit of adoption whereby WE cry Abba, Father. In Gal 4:6 it says God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying Abba, Father. The word Abba was not only given to Jesus to use but to us also. This very personal intimate word was not only given to Jesus, but to us as well. Praise The Lord !
This is shouting ground, this is something to be greatly excited about.
Why is this so great ? I’m glad you asked. You see, the word Abba when you try to translate it, the closest word we have is Daddy or Papa. That’s right, Daddy or Papa. You get to call God your Father, but He is also your Daddy, your Papa. Now for you parents, doesn’t it give you great joy when your children come to you and know that you love them and they can call you Daddy or Papa. That is how God feels about you. He gave you this Word and it says we can call Him Daddy or Papa. This is a revelation of the Love of God to us and He is a very personal God, an intimate God, your Daddy. Now understanding this it makes it so much easier to trust Him, have faith and know that He is for you. God is not holding anything back from you. He wants to heal you, to prosper you, to protect you and much more. What would you do for your child if they had some need. Would you hold back healing, prosperity, protection or any kind of help ?
Why then would you say that of your Daddy ? Perhaps your light hasn’t gone on.
Ps 119:130
The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.
Matt 7:11
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
Luke 12:31-32
(31) But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.
(32) Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom .
When you get to know who God really is to you and the personal intimate relationship He desires to have with you it will change the way you think and stand in faith knowing that your Abba Father, your Papa God is for you and not against you and everything else in the scriptures will take on a whole new expanded personal meaning to you. That’s why I like to say it doesn’t matter what the problem may be,
DO YOU KNOW WHO MY DADDY IS ?
I DO . HE’S ALMIGHTY GOD .
GOD LOVES YOU
If you haven’t made Jesus Christ your Lord and Saviour I would like to encourage you to do so. ( Romans 10:13 ) For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Pray this prayer God in heaven, I believe Jesus Christ is the son of God and that he died for my sin and was raised on the third day. I repent of my sins and receive Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. Lord Jesus come into my heart and make me a child of God. Thank You Lord. Amen. Note: All scripture references are from the King James Bible
