THE LORD’S PRAYER Part 5 (THY KINGDOM COME)

posted by David M Kijula in Christian Lesson, 13 November 2009

Matt 6:9-13

(9) After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

(10) Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

(11) Give us this day our daily bread.

(12) And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

(13) And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

THY KINGDOM COME is such a powerful and all encompassing request that it almost staggers the natural mind as we begin to grasp what we have just asked for and that God desires to fulfill this request in our lives. Yes, God desires to fulfill this request in your life. That is why He gave this instruction to us so that He can perform this word in your life. These three words mean so much and they for the most part have been recited as part of a prayer at varies times and the true meaning of these three words have remained hidden and unfruitful. But as we examine “ THY KINGDOM COME “ let us see what God has intended for us and trust God that we will be fruitful with what we see.

We can consider the request “Thy kingdom come “ in three parts. The first part would be Jesus when He first came. He represents the kingdom of God in person. Jesus Christ embodies the kingdom of God and the Spirit of Christ is embodied within the hearts of every Christian.

The second part is that the kingdom of God will come with the return of the Lord Jesus Christ at His second coming.

The third part of “Thy kingdom come” is the kingdom of God in us. The kingdom of God IS come ( present tense ). It is Christ in us and His Kingdom goes wherever Christians go.

Luke 17:20-21

(20) And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:

(21) Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold,

the kingdom of God is within you.

The Kingdom of God is coming continually in the present tense as the Holy Spirit empowers and accompanies us through each day of life. We are agents of God who spread His kingdom wherever we go.

2 Cor 5:19-20

(19) To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

(20) Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.

It is the third part of “ Thy kingdom come “ that I will concentrate on, the kingdom of God within us coming continually as we pray and request this of God. If you are praying and meditating The Lord’s Prayer then you are asking for the “ continual coming “ of the kingdom of God in you which if you keep meditating and praying, will manifest itself in your life.

One of the things of the kingdom of God is that it will help in your sharing of the Gospel of Christ. As we have seen we are to be ambassadors for Christ sharing the word of reconciliation which is the Gospel of Christ. You will be empowered to be a witness. There are several areas of our life that are affected as the kingdom of God comes within us.

First we are changed in who and what we are.

2 Cor 5:17

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature : old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

John 17:16

They are not of the world , even as I am not of the world .

We are no longer of this world and we should not operate as people without Christ in their life. We have a new King and Lord and the just are to live by faith.

Rev 19:16

And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS , AND LORD OF LORDS.

Rom 1:17

For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to

faith : as it is written, The just shall live by faith .

As we pray and meditate Thy kingdom come we are strengthened in our spirit in recognizing Jesus as our King and Lord and we are enabled to submit to His rule and authority in our lives. We keep the law of God and it is not grievous to us. Also the kingdom of God has its own rules as any kingdom would have, but these rules are of God. We are called to be righteous and holy and as we pray Thy kingdom come the ability to keep God’s rules is planted in us and righteousness and holiness will eventually manifest if we continue in this word.

Rom 14:17-18

(17) For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

(18) For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men.

The scriptures say that to continue in the things of the world would keep the kingdom of God from manifesting to us.

Gal 5:19-25

(19) Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

(20) Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

(21) Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past,

that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

(22) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

(23) Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

(24) And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

(25) If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

As we can see in Gal 5 that the works of the flesh will keep us from the inheritance of the kingdom of God but if we continue to pray and meditate “ Thy kingdom come “ we are calling for God’s help in bringing His kingdom into our present within us which will overcome the works of the flesh, bring us into the fruit of the Spirit and give us the victory in this area of our lives. “Thy kingdom come “ is a call for God’s provision in our lives.

Matt 6:33

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

What is it that you have need of ? If it can be found in heaven or the kingdom of God when you pray “Thy kingdom come” you are calling for that in the Lord’s prayer. The scripture says that we have been given great and precious promises so that we can be partakers of the divine nature.

2 Peter 1:2-4

(2) Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,

(3) According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

(4) Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Whenever you ask God for something in prayer such as healing, financial help, protection, of whatever the situation may be, the answer to your request is a condition of the kingdom of God. Is there any sickness in heaven, any lack, bondage, problem. When you pray asking for God’s help for these things you are asking for the kingdom of God to be made manifest in place of its worldly opposite.

When you pray for healing you are saying the healing of Thy kingdom come. When you pray for your need to be met you are saying the abundance of Thy kingdom come. When you pray for peace you are saying the peace of Thy kingdom come. When you pray and meditate

THY KINGDOM COME “ you are calling for all that God has promised and all that He represents to us as well as His character and His kingdom to be made manifest in and through you.

All that God would have you to be ( righteous and holy and of good character ) and all that He would provide for you and all your answers to prayer are in the seed of His word that He has given to you to plant

THY KINGDOM COME

These are the three words that will change the conditions of your life in this world to the conditions of the kingdom of God in you.

GOD LOVES YOU

If you haven’t made Jesus Christ your Lord and Saviour I would like to encourage you to do so. ( Romans 10:13 ) For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Pray this prayer God in heaven, I believe Jesus Christ is the son of God and that he died for my sin and was raised on the third day. I repent of my sins and receive Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. Lord Jesus come into my heart and make me a child of God. Thank You Lord. Amen. Note: All scripture references are from the King James Bible
