The Calling
No one has been born into the ‘Anointing of God’. Not one of us is pre-destined to do God’s work or have the ‘Gifts of the Spirit’ automatically working through our person. When we receive the anointing of God, it is because of the choices that have been made; the sacrifices that have been willingly accepted; it is because of the way one has truly accepted Christ into their heart and asked Him to be his guiding force FOREVER!
An interesting way to understand the depth of acceptance of God (by man) is by understanding this analogy:
A man stole a candy bar from a local store and felt guilty of his sin for weeks after the incident occurred. He prayed that God would forgive him and feared that the police would come to his home and inform his parents of what he had done. The shame of his actions would be horrible. He may embarrassed so much that he might never enter this store again.
A second man lost his job and spent his last $50 to purchase a handgun. He found a local club that stayed open to the public until 2 a.m. The club also sold alcoholic beverages and many of the club’s clientele would stagger home in the early hours of the morning. He made a plan to use the gun to steal money from one of the club’s patrons. The moment finally came, and he went through with the robbery. After taking the victim’s wallet, the victim struck out at him, and hit him in the head, he broke free and fired the gun once as he ran away. The last thing he remembered before running into the night was watching the patron fall to the ground. Our robber was so worried that he could not eat or sleep. He read the newspaper and watched the news on TV to see if he could find out what had happened; there was no news. He feared that he would go to jail for the rest of his life if the man had died.
He got down on his knees and begged God to forgive him. He promised God that he would dedicate the rest of his life to Him if this could somehow be ok. As it all turned out, the shot somehow missed, and the man was so drunk that he never knew that he was shot at. After confessing to the robbery, our thief received 6 months probation and was helped to find work through the city employment office.
The point to all of this is: who was forgiven more? The candy bar thief or the armed robber?
Our armed robber dedicated his life to Christ and is now instrumental in leading other lives to accepting Christ. He has The Calling!
Life is not about what we can get away with, or who we trick or deceive without getting caught. Life is about dedicating our entire time to Christ without holding back anything! The singular focus of serving Christ is the only acceptable goal in life. Nothing else matters!
Is it any wonder that almost everyone falls short of the only worthy goal?
Ask God for direction. He will show you what you need to know in a way that will make perfect sense to you.
Our candy bar thief got over his embarrassment and lived to steal again and again.
