THE LORD’S PRAYER Part 8 (OUR DAILY BREAD)
Matt 6:9-13
(9) After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
(10) Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
(11) Give us this day our daily bread.
(12) And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
(13) And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
As we have been praying The Lord’s Prayer we get to the verse
Give us this day our daily bread. Here we are asking for God to meet our needs or for His provision for this day. Some feel that this is a prayer for our physical needs to be met such as healing but I tend to see much more than just our physical needs being met. We are body, soul and spirit and I believe this verse Give us this day our daily bread not only meets our physical needs, but covers all of our needs, body, soul and spirit. Give us is an asking for God’s provision for ourselves and the daily bread is what nourishes us, body, soul and spirit. So in essence we are asking “ God, give us your provision that will nourish us and meet our needs to see us through this day and prepare us for tomorrow so that we can be what you have called us to be. “ We need to be well nourished so that we can be strong in the Lord and we need the bread of heaven to sustain us.
1 Thess 5:23
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
3 John 2
Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health , even as thy soul prospereth.
God provides for us body, soul and spirit and the Apostle John prayed for us to prosper. That prosperity provides for prosperity in every area of life as well as your finances. He also prayed for us to be in health as our soul prospers. Have you ever thought that the reason why you aren’t prospering, including finances, or health problems may be because your soul is not prospering ? Everything we face in this life is not all caused by the physical. Some of the trouble has a spiritual cause that can only be overcome by spiritual means.
Acts 10:38
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil ; for God was with him.
1 Peter 5:8
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion , walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
When you are trying to deal with problems that have a spiritual cause and you are trying to use natural means with these problems is it any wonder why you can’t seem to get free of it and the more you try it seems like nothing will work. You need God to Give us this day our daily bread. Lets see what Jesus said about bread.
Mark 7:25-29
(25) For a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of him, and came and fell at his feet:
(26) The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter .
(27) But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it unto the dogs.
(28) And she answered and said unto him, Yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children’s crumbs.
(29) And he said unto her, For this saying go thy way; the devil is gone out of thy daughter .
Acts 10:38
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil ; for God was with him.
Jesus referred to this healing as the children’s bread. This is one of the reasons we need our daily bread.
Matt 4:4
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Our daily bread also includes the word of God to us for that day. We are to live by every word of God but at the time we are asking for our daily bread we are asking for the word of God to us that we need for this day. This is the word that will sustain us for what we face this day. This word will sustain us body, soul and spirit.
John 6:35
And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
John 6:48
I am that bread of life.
Jesus is also the bread that came down from heaven and having our daily bread is having Jesus made manifest in our lives. It is the relationship with Jesus and the Father and the Holy Spirit that we are partaking of. We are being nourished in our relationship with God and partakers of the abundant life.
John 10:10
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
God wants us to grow into the abundance He has provided and He has given us Daily Bread to nourish us, body, soul and spirit so that we may have life, and have it more abundantly.
Give us this day our daily bread.
GOD LOVES YOU
If you haven’t made Jesus Christ your Lord and Saviour I would like to encourage you to do so. ( Romans 10:13 ) For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Pray this prayer God in heaven, I believe Jesus Christ is the son of God and that he died for my sin and was raised on the third day. I repent of my sins and receive Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. Lord Jesus come into my heart and make me a child of God. Thank You Lord. Amen. Note: All scripture references are from the King James Bible
