The Seventh Day

posted by Robert Czaplinsky in Christian Lesson, 15 December 2009

Every year about this time, the United States celebrates a very unique holiday. The reason for all the hustle and bustle is called ‘Christmas’. Most everyone agrees that this is one of the greatest holidays, but the agreement ends here. Reasons vary for the celebration being held at this time.

Some citizens believe it is all about gathering together with family, others like to dazzle the thoughts of the young with a mystical Santa Claus. There is a group who love having a beautifully decorated Christmas tree as the centerpiece in their living room, with colorful lights and ornaments covering the exterior of their home. All of this is very nice, and extremely thoughtful and decorative, but sadly…not the reason for this holiday.

About 6000 years ago, Adam and Eve were brought into existence and walked with God in the Garden of Eden. There was no sin back then, no shame, no knowledge of perversity. Then came the choice of Eve to eat from the Tree of Knowledge, thus convincing Adam to do the same. Trouble began!

This trouble was no surprise to God, since He is omnipotent. He is, always was, and always will be! He had the perfect plan already in place. This plan was His son; Jesus!

John 1: 1-5

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him, all things were made; without him, nothing was made that had been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

Jesus, just like God has always been, and always will be. Jesus was brought forth to the Earth through the virgin Mary, a clean and prayerful woman of God. She was the vessel God used to bring Jesus to the World in the form of a person. It is important to note that this event took place 2000 years ago.

As we tally up the years and take note of slight differences in the calendars used over the years, we come to find that the time between Adam and today is approximately 6000 years. The book of Daniel tells us that “A day unto God is as 1000 years to man.” This is very significant to us because 6 days have just passed for God since the Garden of Eden was the living quarters for Adam and Eve. We are either close to, or perhaps have already entered the ‘seventh day’. The seventh day is significant because God also created the earth and all that went with it in ‘six days’ (the beginning of the book of Genesis). On the seventh day, he rested.

Can this actually be the time when Jesus calls home all of the true believers? Although this is my greatest hope, I also choose to ask God to tarry. When I see all who walk in the world instead of with Him, I see the need to focus in and begin to understand that Jesus came to Earth to cleanse us of our sin, not just a covering of sin as illustrated in the Old Testament. The need is great and there are so few who even speak of Jesus anymore.

I call on everyone who reads these words to stop right now and rededicate your life to Jesus. Help to bring in the harvest in these most stressful times. This world has little to offer. If your truly care about those who you call your family and friends, then reach out to them…this may well be the 7th day! The opportunity is here when you will see them and gather together. Take a stand for Jesus and offer the true gift of Christmas…ETERNAL LIFE!
